    ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS: Yes

I am Katesha, @The_Virtual_Social_Worker aka “The Community Plug”. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2007 at NC State University, and my Master of Social Work, Clinical Concentration in 2014 at Norfolk State University. I began my career in human services/social services in 2009 as a Court Appointed Guardian ad Litem (GAL) volunteer for Durham, County, NC. I represented the best interest of juveniles in court that were abuse, neglected, or dependent during custody, visitation, or termination of parental rights hearings. During that time, I also worked as a Temporary Food and Nutrition (now Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP) Case Manager for Wake County, NC, County. Which gave me insight into the various social welfare and disability programs that are at the taxpayer’s disposal such as TANF, WIC, Housing, Section 8, Childcare Subsidy, and Utility Assistance. Knowledge of these programs is helpful when I am providing case management to stabilize a family unit during a crisis or working as a coach to help someone reach their personal and professional goals with minimal environmental stressors.

I am a human behaviorist at heart. My previous career was in child development and my interests were in law and criminology hence my employment during my supervision with at-risk youth, families, and as a correctional mental health provider in a male prison. When it comes to therapy and coaching I like to approach issues from a strength-based perspective. I am solution-focused and goal-driven. I do not believe in keeping people in services forever. So, I am not the provider for you, if you want to be in therapy for 5 to 10 years, talking about the same thing. In order to work with me, you will need to be ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work. My sessions are fun, thought-provoking, challenging, sometimes painful, and can be tearful. Together we will explore the things that got you to where you are today, so I can help be a catalyst for the change you want to see in your life. I employ techniques from various treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Coaching (CBC) Motivational Interviewing (MI), Bowen Family Systems Theory, Family-Centered Therapy (FCT)-Informed, Attachment Theory, Gestalt Therapy, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-Informed, among another treatment modalities to assist my clients in reaching their goals. It is my desire to be a support for you as you experience life abundantly. I achieve this by being open and honest with my clients from the moment treatment begins until termination. This will help you gain insight into who you are. Once you are able to adjust your crown and walk in your truth, it is easier to live life on your own terms and manifest the things you desire.
