Hello! My name is Alexis Johnson and I am so happy you are here and taking the time to read through a little of my history! I grew up in Richmond, VA. It is there learned the importance of not only multicultural counseling but the importance of African American culture. Growing up, I have always been the person to advocate for anyone who needed me. So much so my parents thought I would become a lawyer! Helping people is what I love to do.
A little about my education. I started my journey at Hampton University aka “The Real HU!” There I studied psychology and I minored in English. Being able to learn in an environment that allowed me to be my most authentic self with no judgment was unbelievably beautiful! I enjoyed myself to the fullest during my time there. I received my master’s degree from Regent University. While there, I was able to participate in clinical missions’ teams to Romania and the Philippines where I helped train staff with working with human trafficking.
I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population of clients. I have worked with many different types of disorders from anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, substance use, etc. I have had the opportunity to work with the prison population and run groups for domestic violence offenders. I also have experience with couples. My time in the field has been spent learning about different populations as to one, learn about the population I am most comfortable with and two, gain a general knowledge base on a variety of concerns I may see in my office.
